Fungal Development and Gene Expression

Our research group has been dedicated to study mainly filamentous fungi belonging to the genus Trichoderma. Fungi belonging to this group are common soil inhabitants, which have gained importance due to their success as biological control agents of phytopathogenic fungi. Therefore, we have devoted our efforts to the elucidation of the mechanisms of action employed by Trichoderma to perceive and attack its prey. For this purpose, we applied modern molecular biology techniques. We have also dedicated efforts to understand and dissect the process of asexual reproduction of these fungi, as well as, the transduction of the signals that trigger this process, including nutrient limitation, light, and mycelial injury. Recently, we have become involved in the use of functional genomics strategies not only to study Trichoderma, but also light responses in Phycomyces blakesleanus, venom production in scorpions, and complete plant genomes.
